Deer Valley more than doubled its winter footprint over the last two seasons. The summer map did not follow. The resort still operates three chairlifts in the summer: Silver Lake Express, Sterling Express, and Homestake Express. Every hike, every downhill lap, every Wednesday concert, every Saturday food festival funnels through those same three cables.
That is the quiet story of the 2026 summer season. The programming grew. The plumbing did not. If you live here, the practical consequence is that spontaneous plans are getting harder, and the Deer Valley calendar now behaves more like a ticketed venue than a mountain you drive up to on a whim.
The three-lift summer, in context
Summer operations officially began Friday, June 19, 2026, and the season runs through September 20, 2026. The lifts serve nearly 60 miles of mountain bike trails, including four flow trails designed by Gravity Logic, along with hiking and scenic riding via Sterling Express and Silver Lake Express.
The bigger shift is that the resort halted mountain biking operations last year during the East Village construction push, and this is the first summer the trails are open again. After a year of closures, construction impacts and one of the largest transformation periods in resort history, trail crews describe reopening as equal parts rebuilding project, engineering challenge and race against time. Locals who assumed 2025 was a one-off should read 2026 as the actual reset.
The bike park charges for walking up now
The most substantive rule change of the summer is aimed at a small group of riders, but it says something about how the resort is thinking about capacity. Deer Valley now requires mountain bikers to pay for pedal access to lift-served downhill trails, a new fee structure the resort says will help sustain its bike park operations. The new Pedal Pass costs $12 per day or $50 for the season and will fund trail maintenance, bike patrol, operations and guest safety within the lift-served bike park.
A few things to know before you or a visiting cousin roll up to Tsunami on a hardtail:
- The fee applies only to riders who access bike park trails without purchasing a lift ticket or season pass. Multi-use, multi-directional cross-country trails remain free and open to the public.
- Steve Graff, vice president of mountain operations at Deer Valley Resort, noted that more than 100 riders a day access the bike park without a lift ticket, and the Pedal Pass gives them a formal way to do so.
- Enforcement begins as an honor system, with the resort hoping community encouragement will build compliance over time. Riders who purchase a pass will receive a velcro tag to display on their bike.
- Deer Valley currently spends $150,000 a year on summer trail maintenance alone, and flow trails cost roughly $100,000 a mile to build.
If you already hold a summer pass, nothing changes. If you have been climbing the flow trails on foot with a bike on your back to save $12, that arrangement is now formal.
Wednesdays got longer
For years, the Deer Valley summer schedule was daylight only. That has changed. The Twilight Ride Series ticket provides access to Silver Lake Express, Sterling Express, and Homestake Express on Wednesday evenings from 4 to 8 p.m., June 24 through August 19.
Four extra hours of lift-served riding once a week is a small change on paper and a large one in practice. If you have kids in Park City camps that end at 3 p.m., a Wednesday evening lap is now a real option instead of a race against dusk.
The concert calendar has hardened
The single biggest change in daily life on the mountain this summer is the density of the concert schedule at the Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. The Utah Symphony's Deer Valley Music Festival runs July 17 through August 15, 2026, and the festival is presented by the Utah Symphony in its 22nd season.

The July 17 and 18 performances mark Maestro Markus Poschner's debut as Utah Symphony Music Director Designate during the 2026 Deer Valley Music Festival. The August 14 show is the Deer Valley Concert Series production, in partnership with The State Room Presents, and worth booking early if brass-heavy nights are your speed.
For the quieter chamber programming, Poschner will direct the first of four Deer Valley Music Festival chamber orchestra concerts on July 22 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, an all-Mozart program including the "Jupiter" Symphony. All chamber performances are held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1505 White Pine Canyon Rd.
If your evening walks used to wind past the amphitheater unpressured, expect that to change on more nights than not between mid-July and mid-August.
The free part is still free, and getting bigger
The Silver Lake lawn, the flat green apron below the mid-mountain lodge, has become the counterweight to the ticketed schedule. Live music on the Silver Lake lawn, in collaboration with Mountain Town Music, kicks off the resort's summer concert season beginning Friday, June 26, 2026. Local acts take the stage on the Silver Lake lawn 1 to 4 p.m. every Friday through Sunday starting June 26 through Sept. 18, with lounge chairs, local beer, food trucks and yard games for all ages.
Nearly thirteen weeks of afternoon live music, three days a week, at no cover. If you have out-of-town guests coming through in July or August, this is the default plan.
Fire & Flavor, and why the parking math changes
The other draw pulling people to Silver Lake in the middle of the day is a food event. The Fire and Flavor Festival at Silver Lake brings chefs live-fire cooking to the mountain every Saturday and Sunday from July 11 until Aug. 8, with a different lineup each weekend including open-fire seafood, regional barbecue and highlights from local breweries. Admission is free with the purchase of a $10 lift ticket from Snow Park, and one child may ride free per paying adult.
Five straight weekends of Fire & Flavor stacked on top of the free lawn concerts and the ticketed evening symphony program means Snow Park's parking lot has more competing users on any given Saturday than it did two summers ago. Arriving late used to be a minor inconvenience. This summer it is a strategy problem.
What East Village is doing to your Friday night
The winter story of Deer Valley East Village has been well told. The summer story is quieter and more interesting. The first hotel to open, Grand Hyatt Deer Valley, debuted last season, and Utah's first Hilton Canopy is expected to open in summer 2026, according to Extell. According to the Park Record, the Canopy Deer Valley hotel under the Hilton brand is planned to open near the end of July.
Two branded hotels within a short drive of Silver Lake means the audience for the July and August calendar is measurably larger than it was in 2024. That is the pressure feeding into a three-lift summer.
The offsetting piece of good news for people who live on the mountain: Park City Transit has expanded its Purple Route to offer regular shuttle service to trailheads in the Deer Valley area. Between the shuttle and the East Village entrance off U.S. Route 40, the Snow Park approach is no longer the only reasonable way in.
The takeaway for people who already live here
The pattern this summer is not more mountain. It is more programming on the mountain you already know, delivered through the same three lifts, watched by a hotel audience that did not exist in 2023. The reservations, the pass structure, the Pedal Pass tag on the handlebars, the Wednesday evening ticket window, the Silver Lake parking math on a Fire & Flavor Saturday: all of it points the same direction. Winging it is less rewarding than it used to be.
The upside is that the calendar is worth planning around. Poschner conducting Beethoven's Ninth outdoors in July, Trombone Shorty in August, thirteen weeks of free Friday afternoons on the lawn, a bike park back on its feet. This is the best summer Deer Valley has offered in years. It just rewards a little forethought.
